Flood Relief (pre Covid-19) — Uttar Pradesh Flood 2018

Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, August 2018

In August 2018, the Kanpur region in Uttar Pradesh reeled under incessant rains and the rising Ganga river. As massive flooding wreaked havoc across multiple districts, Air Force helicopters and military personnel were mobilized to rescue and evacuate people stranded by the floods, trying to seek shelter from collapsing buildings or lightning strikes.

Vishav Manav Ruhani Kendra organized its volunteer teams to prepare and pack thousands of food packets. Nearly 50-60 volunteers at the local Vishav Manav Ruhani Kendra center cooked poori (fried bread) with veggies. On August 12, 14, and 17, 2018, the food packets were brought to the relief camps in Kanpur, Gujaini, and 10-15 nearby villages, and distributed to the displaced flood victims.

Shuklaganj, Uttar Pradesh, September 2018

By September 2018, the summer monsoon showed no signs of abating. More rains brought widespread flooding as the rising waters of the Ganga river continued to spill over its banks. Shuklaganj, in Uttar Pradesh, also suffered flooding from the deluge.

Once again, Vishav Manav Ruhani Kendra volunteer teams cooked poori with veggies and packed food packets containing the cooked poori, veggies, pickle, and biscuits. Over 3 days, we distributed these food packets to 7 villages affected by the flood.
